Background of DCM

Dove Consulting Ministries was birthed in response to the deep spiritual yearning expressed by a group of young Korean-American women in metro Atlanta, Georgia. These women, mostly working professionals in their 20’s, were longing for a deeper and more consistent relationship with Christ, but felt stifled by their uncertainty on how to read and interpret Scripture on their own. Many of them were serving and active at church, yet they could not deny this gap between their weekly attendance at church and their daily relationship with Christ.

In May of 2015, Daniel Kim and Esther Yu moved to metro Atlanta, GA to pastor the young adult ministry these women were a part of. When Esther saw the spiritual yearning and the eagerness of these women to learn and grow under her care, she began praying about how to guide them towards a deeper intimacy with Christ through a thriving and sustainable relationship with His Word. Four months later, in September of 2015, Esther launched Dove Discipleship for the first time with 4 of these young women. 

Compelled by their urgency to grow closer to Christ, Esther developed a discipleship plan that will not only equip them in reading and interpreting Scripture, but ultimately in cultivating a lifestyle of intimacy with Christ through built-in accountability, spiritual disciplines, and undaunted intentionality. Hence, early morning gatherings became an essential part of Dove Discipleship. 

What started out as 4 women meeting with Esther at 5:30 in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for 1 month, turned into 4 more women joining the following year, then another 4 the year after; and eventually 8 of these women discipling 7 new women by the time Dove Discipleship reached its third year. The 1 month extended to 3 trimesters equalling to a total of 9 months of training, and by the end of the 9 months, these women were eager and ready to share the things they’ve learned to other women in their community. And that’s exactly what happened. 

When Daniel, Esther’s husband, saw what was happening, he encouraged her to make Dove Discipleship accessible to the larger Christian community. Daniel believed that more women and churches could benefit from this model of discipleship. Thus Dove Consulting Ministries emerged with the hopes of providing training and resources through the Dove Discipleship model for women and churches in the greater metro Atlanta area.
